Ben's Boat Repair
Dear Boat Owners,
Since closing in October 2016, we have kept our eye on the industry, the economy, and the changing climate conditions. We find the conditions are still unfavorable economically, and are disappointed by the industry's lack of progressive innovations.
Consumer demand often drives progress and innovation. Many consumers seem to be unaware of the incredible innovations happening around the world, so we have decided to use this space to increase your awareness of the alternatives to gasoline.
Imagine owning a boat that requires no oil changes, fuel stabilizers, or winterizing. Imagine never paying marina fuel prices ever again. Imagine never trashing another engine because of ethanol damage.
"Rainbow water" is bad for the environment. We can no longer be complacent or complicit in the destruction on the planet. I can no longer look into the eyes of your children and grandchildren without feeling shame.
If that makes me a "tree hugging liberal", I'm okay with that.
Love,
The Wench

Transom Repair
The transom is a very important part of the boat. It's important to protect your transom as much as possible by using ram clips or transom saver or stow support. Air out the bilge after a day on the water, keep your bilge pump working, keep your drain plug hole clear of debris such as leaves and twigs, and make sure your drain plug is out when it rains so you don't sink your boat on the trailer. (That can cause all kinds of problems.)
Customer Complaint: taking on water
Customer said his boat was leaking, and he tried to fix it himself. He used... I'm not sure what it was... like roofing tar or something. It was really hard to clean it off so the drive could be removed.
Diagnosis: Rotted Transom
I don't care how much silicone you slather on, the problem will only get worse, will grow quietly, spreading silently while you ignore it. The only way to stop it is to bite the bullet, pull out your wallet, and pay the man that does the good work.
Solution: Transom Repair
All components must be removed before it goes to the fiberglass shop, and reinstalled after the transom has been repaired or replaced. This is the ideal time to replace bellows, gimbal bearing, and cables because there is no additional labor charge.
The fiberglass shop is a seperate entity... separate bill. If you make arrangements with them, I can haul your boat to their shop and pick it up after you pay them. (Yes, I charge for that. Gas isn't free. Current fee is $20 per trip.) My labor charge for R&R engine & drive is 8 hours (@ $75/hr= $600+tax).
