Engine issues?

We make 'em go, we don't make 'em pretty. Regular preventative maintenance will save you money. Spending the extra dollar or two for quality parts makes a difference. Your boat is an investment, and like any investment, you have to put a little money in it if you want to get anything out of it. Don't ignore "your lady". Listen when she talks, especially when she says "call the mechanic".

Customer Complaint: No Start

We don't normally work on outboards, but we make an exception from time to time. The customer said it was running a little weak the last time he had it out, but now it wouldn't start at all.

Engines won't run without compression. You can't make compression when you have holes in your cylinders.

$4 oil filter = $4,000 repair

Customer spent $4,000 building a 383 stroker motor. He used quality parts from Comp, Eagle, ARP, Keith Black, and Holley. He must have hit his head on the way to the parts store... he cheaped out and put a $4 oil filter on a High-Volume oil pump. He said it ran fine for a few hours, then started smoking a little, then just stopped and wouldn't start. The oil filter collapsed, starving the engine for oil. The crank broke in 3 places, scratched the camshaft, cracked the block in 4 places, and bent a few valves.
